Important Information
Before ordering your test
Before ordering your test, please take a few moments to read the information below. We also recommend that you read about getting a diagnosis and thyroid function tests help you decide whether private testing is appropriate for you.
Choosing the right test
Thyroid UK staff are not qualified and are unable to advise which test is most suitable for you. If you’re unsure which test to choose, please speak to your GP or another healthcare professional before placing an order.
Preparing for your test
Some tests have specific requirements such as fasting, centrifuging and freezing, while others have specific collection times. Please read the instructions provided with your test kit carefully.
Biotin supplements
If you take biotin (Vitamin B7) at doses above 20 mg per day, it may affect the accuracy of some thyroid blood test results. Unless your healthcare professional advises otherwise, stop taking biotin at least two days before your test.
Receiving your kit
Your test kit will be sent directly to your chosen delivery address by Genova Diagnostics.
Returning your sample
Follow the instructions included with your kit.
To ensure your sample arrives at the laboratory in the best possible condition, samples should be posted Monday to Thursday only.
Most tests can be returned via Royal Mail. This will cost around £10-£12 depending on size and weight. Some tests will require courier collection or frozen packaging. Your kit will explain if this applies.
International Patients
You will need to organise a DHL medical express pick up. All instructions will be included inside the kit.
Each test kit includes full instructions explaining how to collect your sample.
Depending on the test you’ve ordered, you may need to provide:
- Blood
- Saliva
- Urine
- Stool
Please read all instructions before collecting your sample to help ensure accurate results.
Once the laboratory has completed your analysis:
- Your results will be securely sent to Thyroid UK.
- We will email your report to you as a password-protected PDF.
- Results are usually available within the timeframe stated for your chosen test.
