We all need an up to date Will, but it’s one of those jobs many of us put off. Having a Will is the only way to make sure the people and causes you care about are looked after when you’re gone.
Wills should be updated every few years especially after life events such as getting married, moving house and having children or grandchildren.
If you’re thinking of leaving a gift to Thyroid UK, thank you so much. Thyroid UK is here to help people put the pieces of their thyroid health puzzle together. We want to empower people with the knowledge and confidence to work with their doctor, and to be participants in their own care.
Your donation could help us empower more people as well as fund things such as:
- surveys to show how thyroid patients are dealing with various issues
- a new telephone helpline
- research studies looking at why some patients need T3 or natural desiccated thyroid
- patient information leaflets on topics such as benefits, leaflets for employers and families
- awareness campaigns
- new staff
Thyroid UK has partnered with Bequeathed to offer their supporters a free online Will for Good. Just visit their website – https://www.bequeathed.org/ – at a time that suits you and follow the simple steps to create your draft Will. You can get started straight away by completing an online interview which takes just 20 minutes.
The questions asked help you gather all the information required to make your Will quickly and their team is online to help.
Before you start your Will with Bequeathed, it’s useful to check you have all the information you need to hand. Here is a useful checklist.
A member of staff from one of Bequeathed’s partner legal firms will then advise you in a free 30-minute appointment, which can be by phone or video call, at-home or in-office. They will discuss your circumstances and your wishes and will confirm that the Will fully caters for your needs.
Once your Will is complete they will send it to you in the post. You then sign it and have it witnessed before returning it to them so that they can check it has been executed properly. They will even store it for you, also at no cost.
There is never any charge for a standard will, which is suitable for most people but if your circumstances are complicated and you require further legal advice, they will explain what’s needed and give you a quote to consider.
Once you’ve taken care of friends and family in your Will for Good, you’ll have the opportunity to include Thyroid UK in your Will or make a donation towards our work. There’s no obligation, but whatever you’re able to give will make an enormous difference to people with thyroid disease.
