More Information About Gift Aid

Thyroid UK does vital work in raising awareness of thyroid disease and by helping people work through the steps needed to find out if they have thyroid disease.

We do not receive Government funding of any kind. Our work is funded solely from donations and the sale of our merchandise, newsletter and other publications.

To enable us to continue our vital work we rely on the generosity of people like you, your friends and families to help us.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a scheme that enables charities to claim an additional 25p from every pound donated by UK taxpayers. This means that for every pound you donate to Thyroid UK, we can claim back 25p from the tax man!

Why let the tax man have this money – allow Thyroid UK to claim it now!

When can we gift aid a donation?

For Thyroid UK to be able to claim gift aid on donations, donors must:

  • pay enough UK income tax and/or capital gains tax themselves to cover the amount of tax that Thyroid UK will reclaim
  • give Thyroid UK a gift aid declaration, which should include:
  • their name
  • their home address
  • the charity’s name
  • details of the donation – saying that it is a gift aid donation
  • confirmation that they have paid UK tax at least equivalent to the tax that Thyroid UK will reclaim.

A declaration can be made to cover individual donations, a series of donations or to cover all future donations.

Tax relief

If donors pay the basic rate of tax they cannot claim further tax relief on the payments

If donors pay the higher rate of tax they can claim higher rate relief on the payments by entering the donations in the gift aid box on their self assessment tax return.

Those who receive a form P810 can declare their gift aid payments on it.

Please use Gift Aid to make your donations to Thyroid UK go further by completing the gift aid declaration form
