Lyn Mynott founded Thyroid UK and is Chief Executive Officer. Lyn has worked as a secretary to solicitors and probation officers in her early working life and after her first child was born, she became a bank manager’s secretary. Prior to being diagnosed with hypothyroidism, she trained to become an English teacher, teaching both adults and children from all over the world and English grammar to UK adult students and their children in local schools. Jo Coulson has over 39 years of working in Audit, Operations and Technology governance in large Financial Services companies, with a primary focus on project management, data governance and change.
Jo worked at TSB, and then JPMorgan, for 28 years, in a number of roles including managing global teams. As part of a large site management committee, she sponsored the networking groups that promoted a number of diversity initiatives, including well-woman clinics. Jo also worked at Standard Chartered and Citigroup, living in Singapore and New York, where she experienced different medical approaches to the diagnosis and management of hypothyroid issues. Jo’s final role was back in the UK, working as an Audit Director for Lloyds Banking Group. At Lloyds, she continued to support employee networking groups and worked with charities. Jo took early retirement in early 2019, with the intention of spending more time actively supporting charities and giving something back to the community. “Having a family who experience a number of thyroid conditions, I know how difficult it is to get a diagnosis and appropriate medication. In the past, I have benefitted from the support and guidance provided by Thyroid UK and want to use my experience in audit, governance and technology, to help further increase Thyroid UK’s ability to lobby for, and support, others.”
Aleksandr is a seasoned finance specialist with 17 years of professional experience. Having commenced his professional career as a financial auditor in a top tier consulting firm, he has developed a strong attraction to the energy sector, where he has spent the following 13 years of his professional career, working on senior positions in listed and private companies and being based in offices located in the Middle East, North Africa and Western Europe.
Aleksandr is a graduate of Kingston University (London), a qualified accountant of an Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), an associate member of an Association of Corporate Treasurers (ACT) and a holder of an Advanced Diploma in International Taxation issued by the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT). "The key element to a timely and accurate decision is information. I am delighted to become a member of the team that supports the community providing the critically needed information used for the diagnoses and the respective treatment".
Light is a highly accomplished biomedical scientist with over 7 years of experience in the field. Throughout his career, Light has focused on the intersection between biology and technology, working to advance cutting-edge research and improve healthcare outcomes for patients.
In addition to his work as a scientist, Light is also an experienced operational manager, having led teams of biomedical scientists and technicians in the design and execution of complex projects.
Ania Swirski became a Trustee in February 2023. She is a strategic communications and public policy professional with a background in healthcare. Ania currently works in consulting and has over fifteen years’ experience in devising and leading communications and lobbying campaigns for a range of organisations including trade associations, charities, corporates, and research institutes. She has first-hand experience of thyroid related disorders and is particularly passionate about the power of influencing to improve treatment, care and support. Outside of work she is an accomplished musician and volunteers for CPRE London as a policy advisor. She lives in Surrey with her family and enjoys the many walks the Surrey Hills have to offer. Ania is excited to bring her patient and professional experience to the Board and to Thyroid UK and help achieve its vision.
Giancarlo brings significant experience from the healthcare setting to the Thyroid UK team. He currently works within the field of antibiotic resistance at Shionogi, a Japanese pharmaceutical company, where he is the anti-infectives franchise lead for Europe.
Giancarlo has worked in numerous roles within pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. His previous position was running the UK & Ireland arm of a US biotech involved in rare liver disease. His experience includes varied roles at other healthcare companies including AstraZeneca and Astellas Europe. He has had significant involvement with different patient advisory groups and charities across a number of different disease areas. As a passionate advocate for patient rights, he is looking forward to bringing his experience to Thyroid UK for the benefit of those living with thyroid conditions.
Giancarlo is a scientist by training, with a PhD in Biochemistry from Imperial College, London. He grew up in the north of England and now lives just outside London with his wife, two teenage daughters and dog, all of which keep him busy!
Charlotte is a chartered company secretary and Certified Data Protection Officer who specialises in designing, implementing, and optimising governance and data protection frameworks for regulated and fast growing organisations. With more than two decades of experience across financial services and corporate advisory environments, she supports businesses in strengthening their governance structures, meeting regulatory expectations, and operating with clarity and confidence.
Charlotte’s consultancy work focuses on delivering practical, business aligned solutions. She advises boards, senior leadership teams, and operational functions on corporate governance, compliance with data protection legislation, risk oversight, policy development, and statutory obligations. She has extensive experience building governance and data protection frameworks from the ground up, managing regulatory engagement, and ensuring compliance across multi entity groups.
Her senior career includes leading governance and data protection functions, establishing internal audit and risk structures, and advising a wide portfolio of regulated firms.
Charlotte also holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in law.
Dominic is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) with over 20 years’ experience across the public and charity sectors. He brings extensive expertise in leadership, organisational transformation, and commercial finance, and is widely recognised for delivering clear financial insight, strengthening financial management practices, and leading strategic change.
Throughout his career, Dominic has supported organisations to achieve greater financial sustainability, including guiding them from deficit positions to operational break-even. He has led organisation-wide restructures, delivered cost reduction programmes, and developed effective income generation strategies. In addition, he has successfully implemented and embedded finance systems that enhance reporting, streamline processes, and support better-informed decision-making.
A strong advocate of collaboration, Dominic has built high-performing and trusted finance teams, with a focus on meaningful business partnering. His leadership in transformation initiatives has consistently delivered lasting and sustainable improvements.
Dominic is particularly motivated to support Thyroid UK due to the widespread underdiagnosis and misunderstanding of thyroid conditions. As Treasurer, he is committed to applying his expertise to support the charity’s mission and improve outcomes for individuals affected by thyroid disorders.
Byron Hyde is a British academic specializing in evidence-based policy, trust in institutions, and standards in public life.
He has academic appointments at Hokkaido University, Bangor University, Durham University, the University of Bristol, and University College London, and serves on government advisory bodies and public sector committees within the National Health Service and Ministry of Justice.
He brings with him to Thyroid UK, extensive experience as a charity trustee, treasurer, and chair.
